Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) Training (Montrose)

The NEW Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)

The course runs from 9 AM Saturday, May 2, 2020 – 12:30 PM Sunday, May 3, 2020. BALOO is combined into the IOLS training and introduces parents and leaders to the skills needed to plan and conduct outdoor pack activities, particularly camping. BALOO prepares pack leaders to plan and carry out outdoor experiences. Note: All BALOO participants must complete the online portion of BALOO in my.scouting before attending or you will not be signed off at this event. 

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) Training

The course runs from 9 AM Saturday, May 2, 2020 – 12:30 PM  Sunday, May 3, 2020. The course fee includes meals and training materials. Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS - S11) is required training for Scoutmasters, and their assistants. Working as Patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the outdoors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic outdoor skills required to obtain the First Class rank. This course is also recommended for Venturing and Sea Scout leaders to provide them with the basic skills necessary to conduct their outdoor programs.

When: Saturday, May 2 to Sunday, May 3, 2020

Check-in Saturday morning from 8:00 am to 8:45 am

Check out tentatively Sunday @ 12:30 pm

Have sections A & B completed of the Annual Health and Medical Record with you at registration. Health form can be located on our website: www.Michiganscouting.org in the forms tab.

Who: All Cub Scout adult leaders who would like to be certified to help their packs have a successful Cub Scout camping experience.

Who:  All Scouts BSA leaders who need the Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills training to complete the training for their position.

Why: This training will help you to plan and deliver a quality outdoor experience to your Scouts, both at the Pack and Scouts BSA level.

Cost: $30.00 per person by April 22, then after April 22 until April 27, $40 per person.

Fee includes: Lunch, dinner, cracker barrel on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday and course materials. Please register early online. Limited space is available.

This activity is covered by the Water and Woods FSC Refund Policy.

You will need: Tent, sleeping bag, pillow, chair, personal gear, drinking cup or water bottle. (toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, brush. etc.), 

Dress for the weather as most activities are outdoors. Current Health Form Parts A/B. Youth Protection Training will be required.
