Earth Day Spring Camporee

April 26-28, 2019

NEW-  Cub Scouts and an adult or Den Leaders can attend Saturday AM from 9 AM- 12:30 and help with service projects and join us for lunch for $6 per person (Price includes lunch and a patch)  When registering select the Attendee with Meal registrant for each youth and adult. (All Cubs MUST have an adult or Den Leader attend with them)

Scouts BSA, Venturers, Sea Scouts and Explorers are invited to attend and camp overnight.  Cub Scouts and Webelos are welcome to come and assist with the morning service projects and look around during the day and stay for the campfire.  (No formal program will be offered for Cubs)

The cost is $17 per Scout/Venturer for the weekend if paid by April 13 and then it increases to $22 until April 17.  The adult fee is $10.  Fee includes: Lunch Saturday, Insurance, program equipment, patch, administration, service project costs, and more.

This is a 2-night low impact camporee for Boy Scouts, Venturers, Sea Scouts and Explorers (Sorry - NO Webelos)  Check in starts at 6 PM Friday.  Check out is Sunday at noon after all service projects are completed.  (Units are required to stay and participate in the service projects Sunday if weather doesn't permit completion on Saturday as this is part of the Earth Day event) Camping will be in the park main area.  NO ground fires are allowed so plan accordingly.  You can bring your troop trailer, but it must remain in parking areas or on roads.  Trailers or vehicles are not allowed on the grass or camping areas.  The pavilions are reserved for merit badge instruction on Saturday so units cannot use them.   Units are responsible for all meals except Saturday lunch. 

Scouts will get to choose one of several conservation related merit badges to work on Saturday. Venturers are invited to attend this event to camp, do service projects, work on merit badges (If working toward Eagle) take Leave NO Trace training, or work on the Venturing World Conservation award.

Many of these have prerequisites that need to be completed prior to attending the event.  These are posted on the event.

We will also offer Leave No Trace / Outdoor Ethics session.  Youth and adults can take this class.

For Environmental Science Merit Badge, preference will be given to Scouts that are First Class rank and above first.

We are offering the Venturing World Conservation Award for Venturers. 

All merit badge classes will run after lunch from approximately 1-5 pm.

We are going paperless so youth DO NOT need to bring blue cards. 

 We have implemented the blue card system that is currently being used for all of our Michigan summer camps.  Here is the process:  Scouts do NOT need to bring a blue card this year for any merit badges at the Earth Day Camporee.  We will use the online registration system to produce all completed blue cards and partials for this year's college.  How this works: 

1. Scout completes the badge (or partially completes) 

2. The counselor submits his class roster with all completed Scouts and partials earned to our event coordinator at the close of the April 28 event.

3. Event coordinator inputs data to the registration system (where you signed up your Scout(s) to attend this event)  Blue card sheets will be signed by event coordinator.

4.  Beginning on May 6, Unit Leaders can go into the registration system and download and print the Blue Card sheets or partial completed sheets for all Scouts from the unit that participated at the April Earth Day Camporee. These records will always be accessible to the unit leader.  A paper copy of each class will be kept on file at the Auburn Michigan Scout Service Center.

Scouts do NOT need to bring a blue card.

It is important that the leader that registers your Scouts keeps the confirmation email you receive after paying.  This allows you to access the Blue Cards after the event.

Troop / Unit Camp Fires - Campfires are allowed in the raised fire bowls. Fires must not singe the ground, Leave No Trace mandatory. (Ashes can be disposed of on unpaved roads in the park- preferably near the hockey rink.) Pavilions are reserved for merit badge instruction Saturday so troops cannot take them when they set up camp.  Troops can drive up to their campsite, unload the vehicles and then park the vehicles in designated parking lots.

BSA Leave No Trace Awareness Training for adults and youth is recommended for: Outdoor Ethics Guide position of responsibility, Outdoor Ethics Guide Advisor adult position, any leader signing off on Outdoor Ethics advancement requirements and any interested person.  Outdoor Ethics Orientation is an overview the four points of BSA’s Outdoor Ethics program, the Outdoor Ethics awards, and where to find additional information on them.  BSA Leave No Trace 101: Learn the Seven Principles of Leave No Trace, understand their importance in outdoor activities and where to find additional information.

Best Gateway/Campsite Entrance-  We will judge each troop site for the best /most creative gateway/entrance into the troops site that demonstrates or displays Leave No Trace principles.  Rules: No holes can be dug into the ground.  You can use stakes but remember, we are looking for "Leave No Trace"  practices in use.  Gates will be judged and the best troop will receive a prize.

The Iron Chef patrol cook off contest.- Teams comprised of 8 Scouts maximum will prepare one dish of their choosing. We will provide a secret ingredient to use in the dish. Patrol provides the rest of the ingredients and prepare the dish at the event.  The dish will be judged on flavor, presentation, and use of the key ingredient. The best dish will receive recognition. 

We also ask that units bring items (rope, cones, stakes, etc) to use as a barrier to separate their campsite from their neighbor.

We will have a Saturday Scouts Own Service and campfire program run by the Order of the Arrow.  Please plan to have your unit prepared to do a skit, song or stunt at the event.  Units/participants can come in Saturday morning and stay until event is over Sunday (fee is the same)  If you do this, your Scouts must be at the opening flag ceremony at 8:15 AM Saturday to receive their service project assignment.  Service projects will start promptly following flags (approximately 8:50 am).(You will need to set up camp on your own time).

OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES:  Event patches will be distributed to unit leaders on Sunday after all service projects are completed.

What to bring:  Outdoor Chairs, Folding Tables for campsites

Work Gloves, rakes, shovels and hand trowels, wheel barrels, some power tools (Cordless drills, screwdrivers etc), hammers, and other misc tools.  One project will involve paining/staining (weather permitting)  please bring some old clothes to wear.
