BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) Pathfinder Dist

Event Details

BALOO (BASIC ADULT LEADER OUTDOOR ORIENTATION)

April 22-23, 2023

Welcome to BALOO training! It is the Cub Scout leader training required for any Cub Scout den or pack outdoor event, including pack camping overnighters and Webelos den overnighters.

Who: Cub Scout leaders in charge of the pack's outdoor experiences

At least one BALOO trained leader is required for all Cub Scout Camping Events

What: BALOO training covers topics from health and safety, to the logistics of planning and running a successful camping trip for your pack. You'll learn about meal preparation, camping, cooking (including hands-on Dutch oven cooking), camping gear selection, water safety, and campfire program planning. You'll also learn group games, skits and songs, and practice traditional Scouting skills like pocketknife use and safety, map and compass, knot tying, hiking, outdoor ethics, and first aid.

Gear List:  See attached gear list.

As of May 2017, BALOO training now consists of two components - an online component, and a practical, hands-on component. Both components must be completed to qualify as a "Trained" Cub Scout outdoor leader.

The online component contains introductory and basic information, and must be completed prior to the practical component. The online portion of BALOO is available on the BSA Learning Center by logging into My.Scouting.org. Go to the Course Catalog to add "BALOO Prerequisite Training v2" to your Learning Plan.
