Where Creativity Meets Speed!

The Pinewood Derby is one of the most exciting and creative events in Scouting, and the Sunrise District can’t wait to see the amazing cars our Scouts will bring to the track! With a combination of engineering, imagination, and sportsmanship, this year’s Derby promises to be an unforgettable experience.

• Date: April 26, 2025
• Time: Car Check in starts at 8AM
• Race Starts at 9AM
• Location: Roseville Masonic Temple, 27151 Gratiot Ave, Roseville MI 48066
• Registration Deadline: April 12th, 2025
Official Pinewood Derby Rules:
All cars must comply with the following official BSA Pinewood Derby rules:
1. Dimensions and Weight:
o Width shall not exceed 2-3/4 inches.
o Length shall not exceed 7 inches.
o Weight shall not exceed 5 ounces.
2. Materials:
o Axles, wheels, and body shall be from the materials provided in the kit.
o Additional wheels may be purchased separately.
3. Prohibitions:
o Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are not allowed.
o No lubricating oil may be used. Axles may only be lubricated with powdered graphite or silicone.
o The car shall not ride on any kind of spring.
o No loose materials of any kind are allowed in the car.
4. Operation:
o The car must be free-wheeling, with no starting devices.
What to Expect on Race Day:
• High-Speed Races: Cheer as Scouts put their cars to the test on the track.
• Design Competition: Awards for creativity, Scout spirit, and innovative engineering.
• Family Fun: Enjoy games, crafts, and concessions while supporting the racers.
• Awards Ceremony: Celebrate the efforts of every participant with trophies and certificates.
