Silversides Boy Scout NOVA Whoosh! Day

Who Is This For?  Boy Scouts

When:  Saturday April 22, 2017  9:00 am-3:00 pm

Where:  USS Silversides Museum 1346 Bluff St. Muskegon, MI

Cost: $30*      [Scouts must pre-register by April 19, 2017, walk ins are not allowed, space and materials are limited]

Pre-Requisites- Requirement #1 of the Whoosh! NOVA Award:  Scouts will need to read or watch 2 hours of related content, a 1 hour lecture during this event will provide approximately 1/3 of the 2 hours needed to accomplish this requirement. 

Event Provides:  Requirements 2 - 6 of the Whoosh! Award

Dress code- Class A Uniforms please

Food-  Scouts will need to bring a sack lunch please.  Bottled water will be provided.

Day of the Event:

Scouts will view a live engineering demonstration focused on motion inspired technology utilizing ROV’s in the Silversides STEM Lab. Scouts will also work on basic model building by leaning about model types and professions where models are used. Scouts will also build a model themselves. To cap the day, Scouts will get to see the engines get started on the WWII Submarine, USS Silverside, this will show the Scouts a real life simple machine and marine engineering in action.  

*Download the attached (at right) tracking sheet for Whoosh! NOVA award, to use as you work through the requirements on the day of.  Scouts will be given a NOVA card, indicating the requirements that they accomplished at this event.
