Pathfinder District Scouting Fun Day: Scout Skills

Attention Scouts: Please join us for a winter fun day at Fort Custer State Park on Saturday February 20 starting at 11:00
The key events will focus on both Cub Scouting and T21 activities:
Lunch: byos
-Bring your own soup (or other canned ready to eat meal such as spaghettios)
-Bring a metal spoon for stirring and eating your soup
-soup will be cooked in canteen cups (provided but must be returned)
-cooked on folding stoves (provided but must be returned) with fuel tablets (provided)
-use your scout knife to open the can (must have whittling chip / totem chip)
Scouting Skills:
-Knots and lashings: learn all rank required knots and how to use/apply them correctly
-Pocket Knife and Tool Safety: Earn totem chip, earn whittling chip, try unique tools
-Camp Fire Safety: Earn firemchit
Fire building contest
-timed event from starting until the flame burns through the string that is 20” above the ground
-all fires may only be in park provided fire rings
-each team will be provided 3 matches only (extra matches may be traded back in for candy treats: 1 match small, 2 matches small plus medium, 3 matches small plus medium plus full size
-only natural materials are allowed
-no cutting or breaking of trees in the park
-no artificial fire starters
-prior to starting the fire you must show the judge that you have enough tinder and kindling if proper sizes to effectively start the fire (only after showing the judge your tinder and kindling will your matches be give to your team)
-To assist in building the fire an item to aid in building the fire will be supplied at the registration table based on the highest scouting rank on your team.
Hikes: Conducted by individual units around the park area. For safety all units must submit their hike plan and estimated return time to the registration table before departing for their hikes.
Dinner: cooking competition (each unit will need to bring everything with them for their cooking adventure)
-no ground fires (may use firepit if arranged earlier)
-Stoves May only have one burner
-contest areas:
-the most interesting way to cook
-best meal
-best one pot meal
-most creative meal
-most adventurous meal
Campfire Program
-each unit to perform both a song and a skit
** Ice: under no circumstances may any scout or scouter go out onto the ice. There will be NO second chances for this. Anyone found on the ice will be immediately asked to leave the event; no exceptions. **
