Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills(IOLS) and Outdoor Webelos Leader SkillesTraining (OWLS) (Gerber Scout Camp)

Event Details

What is Outdoor Leader Training?

Outdoor Leader Training is exactly what it sounds like: training for Scouting leaders in the outdoors. The three separate training tracks help teach Scouters the skills and knowledge needed to bring their Scouts out into the woods and how to pass on Scouting wisdom.

Leaders will have a hands on chance to develop their own outdoor skills while going through actual Cub Scout, Webelos and Boy Scout requirements in order to better understand the Scouting requirements they teach.

There are two separate training offerings the in April, so no matter your experience in Cub Scouting or Boy Scouting, there is a fun outdoor training for you.

OWL is a slightly more advanced course for Bear and Webelos Den Leaders.

And, IOLS is for Boy Scout and 2nd year Webelos Leaders.

OWL stands for Outdoor skills for Webelos Leaders. This skills course takes leaders through the advancement for Webelos to help leaders understand how best to lead their Scouts down the trail from Webelos to Boy Scouts, including how best to teach requirements for everything from Geologist to Readyman! You will also learn skills in areas including campsite preparation, campfire building, skits and songs, and much more!

IOLS is Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills. If you have ever been curious exactly how much fun your Scouts should be having, this training is for you! This Boy Scout skills course will leave every participant with the knowledge every Scout must develop in order to gain the rank of First Class. This is a hands on weekend of fun training. Participants will be part of a patrol and spend the weekend as “Boy Scouts.”
