Winter STEM Olympics (Milford)

Event Details

To celebrate the opening of the 23rd Winter Olympic Games this year, we are holding our own Winter STEM Olympics!  Come out and participate in various STEM Adventures to "Do Your Best" in showing the Olympic Spirit while Scouting! 

Kensington Metropark will have two snowmaking machines for the first time this year on their sled hills!  This is the only sled hill in metro Detroit to have their own snowmaking!

 

The following activities are offered:

  • Cardboard Sled Racing (Individual and/or Team)
    • Cub Scouts/Webelos Race
    • Boy Scouts/Venturer Race
    • Open Race
    • Corporate Race
  • Learn to Solder - LED Neckerchief Slides
  • Snow Snakes
  • Winter STEM Activities leading Cub Scouts to work on Science Everywhere NOVA
  • Let It Grow! NOVA for the Boy Scouts.
  • Petting Zoo
  • Kettle Cooking
  • MORE TO BE ADDED!!

 

Cub Scouts will be able to race Cardboard Sleds that can either be built as a pack, den or individually! We will be racing them at the sledding hill at Kensington Metropark.  Winter Science Activities will be offered at the farm center in the afternoon.  We will be posting more detailed information as we get closer to the event.

Boy Scouts/Ventures will be able to work on a NOVA in the morning at the farm center and will be racing their Cardboard Sleds in the afternoon.  Winter Science Activities will be offered at the farm center in the afternoon.  We will be posting more detailed information as we get closer to the event.

This STEM Adventure counts for your unit to earn Certified STEM Unit status!

  • NOVA Module classes are filled at this time.
  • If you have a metropark pass, you can use it for your vehicle.  There is an additional vehicle fee of $10 without the pass.  You pay that to the park.
  • Cub Scout Prerequisites for Science Everywhere! NOVA Module

  • Boy Scout Prerequisites for Let It Grow! NOVA Module

    Req. 1, 2, 3B

  • 2002 Olympic Torch Bearer will be present and you can take a picture with one of the Olympic Torches that was run through Detroit!
