BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) & IOLS (Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills

BALOO introduces parents and leaders to the skills needed to plan and conduct outdoor Cub Scout Pack activities, particularly camping, and IOLS will provide leaders with the basic outdoor skills information needed to start a program right and help their Scouts reach First Class rank. The skills taught are based on the outdoor skills found in the Scouts BSA Handbook.  IOLS is required outdoor training for all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters.

The online component contains introductory and basic information, and must be completed prior to the practical component. The online portion of BALOO is available on the BSA Learning Center by logging into My.Scouting.org. Go to the Course Catalog to add it to your Learning Plan.
BALOO training is now comprised of two components - an online component, and a practical, hands-on component. The online component must be completed to prior to the practical component. The online portion of BALOO is available on the BSA Learning Center by logging into My.Scouting.org. Click on My Training, then Cub Scouting. A new tab should open. Click Catalog, then search for "baloo" and click enroll. There is no online portion that corresponds to IOLS.

Participants who complete this training course will:
Understand the focus of the Cub Scout level of the BSA outdoor program.
Gain the skills needed to plan and carry out a successful Cub Scout-level overnight activity.
