Swing! and Whoosh! STEM Adventure - Warren, MI

Event Details

This STEM Adventure will be held at the Macomb Community College campus at the Center of Advanced Automotive Technology and will bring together multiple community partners in an effort for Cub Scouts, Webelos, Boy Scouts and Venturers to get hands on experience.  Bring information you've gathered by completing requirement #1 and come with at least 2 questions from your investigation and have requirement #2 either completed or with information to be able to relate to the activity.  Go to www.michiganscouting.org/program/stem and scroll down to the links "Swing!", "Whoosh!" or "Hang On!" to become familiar with the requirements we will achieve together!

Cub Scout/Webelos NOVA Session: Swing!

The morning will consist of three different STEM rotations that will allow your Cub Scout/Webelos to meet each of the Swing! NOVA requirements (except the separate Belt Adventure which should completed before attending)

  • Create your own Catapult
  • And more!!!

 

Boy Scouts/Venturers Session: Whoosh! or Hang On!

The afternoon will consist of three different STEM rotations that will allow your Scout to meet each of the Whoosh! or Hang On! NOVA requirements (except the separate Merit Badge, which should completed before attending)

  • Alternative energy sources in transportation
  • Design and build a working model vehicle
  • Investigate and explore how technology affects your life each day and build alternative energy vehicles!

 

Scouts should be in Class A uniforms.

Here are the materials you will will have available for your construction.  Bring a design with you based on these materials in mind. You will not have time to build and test if you don't have a design ready!

Plastic Spoon: 1

Cardboard 4” x 4”: 1

Straws: 10

Rubber Bands: 10

Pipe cleaners: 2

Popsicle sticks: 10

Masking Tape

Marshmallow: 1

Boy Scouts/Venturers

Wind Power Car - Construction Materials:

Cardboard: 1 piece- 6” x 8”

Styrofoam tray: 2- 6 ½ “ x 3 ½”

Straws: 2

Wooden Skewers: 2

Paperclips: 10

Pipe cleaners: 2

Popsicle sticks: 6

Kleenex: 2 sheets

Copy paper: 1 sheet

Construction paper: 1 piece

Masking Tape
