LDS Survivorman Age 14+
"SURVIVOR-MAN WILDERNESS SURVIVAL SKILLS & KODIAK CHALLENGE
Participants in this High Adventure will learn new or enhance existing wilderness survival skills including primitive fire making, shelter building, finding wild edibles, land navigation, search and rescue, water production/purification and wilderness first aid while backpacking and back-country camping on North Manitou Island, an island in Lake Michigan. A Kodiak Leadership Challenge will be run simultaneously as part of this adventure. Participants will learn and enhance their priesthood leadership skills. This adventure is WEEK LONG. Requirements: 14 years of age Each participant must be a BSA Swimmer, and will need a backpack, tent, hiking boots or shoes and any other gear required of a week long backpacking excursion. North Manitou Island is remote, accessible only by ferry and has primitive camping. You will be required to attend pre-trek planning meetings. You must be physically fit and able to carry a backpack (40-50 lbs or 1/3 of body weight) 5 miles in 3 hours. This is an OFF-SITE activity. CAPACITY: 40
