Visual Story Telling Workshop

Camp Teetonkah, September 30 - October 2, 2016

Imagine thousands of Scouters armed with still cameras and audio recorders, hunting great Scouting stories to share via social media sites. That’s the vision for the BSA’s Visual Storytelling Workshop which is coming right here to Michigan!

This course will focus on composition of a good photo, telling a story in a single picture, telling a story in multiple pictures, picture editing and more. This course will move you from classroom instruction to field shooting with professional mentors.

Registration cost: $75 which includes food and lodging at Camp Teetonkah Participants will be asked to bring their own camera(s) and/or computers. Space is limited to first 20 registrants!

James Brown – Lead Instructor

Member of BSA’s National Visual Storytelling team since its inception, James Brown will bring his 37 years of photojournalism experience direct to the classroom at Camp Teetonkah. His name may seem familiar to you through his published articles in Eagles’ Call, Boy’s Life and Scouting magazine. He has co-produced an award winning book, “Long Journey Home: Oral Histories of Cotemporary Delaware Indians” and just recently has been inducted in to the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame.

James Brosher—Instructor and Mentor

An active freelance photographer in the Midwest has a long list of clients which include to name a few; The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, USA Today Sports, Denver Post, University of Michigan and more. An Eagle Scout, Brosher will also be part of this course to help mentor and instruct.

David Burke—Instructor and Mentor

Retired from a 36 year career with the Boy Scouts of America as Communications Specialist at National level and in four local councils, David is currently back working as a consultant to local councils interested in using storytelling as part of their marketing efforts. David developed his passion for photography in college where he worked as a photographer for the public relations office. He has also served on the photo staff for four National Jamborees and is currently a support team member of the Visual Story Telling Workshop Committee for National BSA.
