2017 WWFSC Natl Jamboree Contingent Uniform Patch and Trading Set

2017 National Scout Jamboree
Contingent Uniform Patch Set
Water and Woods Field Service Council
(Michigan)
Troop 2233
This is a limited edition three-piece set (JSP, OA pocket flap & pocket hanging patch) issued for the 2017 National Scout Jamboree Troop 2233 from the Water and Woods Field Service Council (Representing most of eastern-northeastern lower Michigan). This is the 19th BSA National Jamboree and is being held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia from Jul 19, 2017 – Jul 28, 2017.
The design & symbolism of the “Petoskey Stone Contingent Set”
The basis of the design concept for our contingent’s uniform patch set was to have a patch set that would be uniquely Michigan and our youth would be readily identified as being from Michigan. What better way to achieve this than to have the uniform’s patch set reflect Michigan’s unique “mitten” shape and to have a patch background of our State Stone, the Petoskey Stone (adopted in 1965).
The other state symbols which are reflected on the bottom patch, which is the mitten shape of Michigan’s lower peninsula are:
- State Flower - Apple Blossom (adopted in 1897)
- State Bird – Robin (adopted in 1931)
- State Tree – White Pine (adopted in 1955)
- State Fish – Brook Trout (adopted in 1988)
- State Mammal – Whitetail Deer (adopted in 1997)
In the JSP (Jamboree Shoulder Patch), we have the classic image of Norman Rockwell’s First Class Scout in a campaign hat hand saluting from his 1944 painting, “We, Too, Have A Job To Do.”
On the far left is a ghosted state of Michigan lower peninsula with MCC on it acknowledging our official “Michigan Crossroads Council.”
On the right side of the JSP is the BSA fleur-de-lis logo. And on the far right is a ghosted “SBR” acknowledging the Summit Bechtel Reserve where the 2017 National Jamboree is being held.
The Order of the Arrow Flap patch from our Council’s lodge (Agaming Maangogwan) features the lodge’s totem of the Common Loon swimming on a lake. Ghosted below the Loon is “2017 National Jamboree SBR” and directly below the Loon are the letters “WWW” and the lodge # “804.”
And finally, to tie all three patches of the set together, there is a ghosted image of the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse in Port Huron which was built in 1829 (Michigan’s oldest lighthouse) towering up the three patches when they are arranged as in the above photo. The lighthouse is symbolic, as Michigan has so many lighthouses, especially on our Council’s Lake Huron shoreline.
Each youth and adult member of our Council’s contingent will receive two of these sets at no additional charge.
Additional sets may be purchased by contingent members and Water and Woods volunteers working on staff at the Jamboree for $8.00/set.
Additional black-bordered JSPs may be purchased for $2.00/JSP and we will also have a red color JSP designated as a trading patch also available for $2.00/JSP.
We will accept orders for additional patches through 3/31/2017. Our patch order will be placed on 4/3/17.
