Canoe Voyage - Muskegon River

Join us for a weekend on the Muskegon River!
We will gather at Gerber on Friday night for swim checks, safety instruction and a river segment review. Everyone must complete a swim check and be classified a "swimmer" or you will be placed in the center of the canoe with two "swimmers". If you have a valid Swim Record Classification dated after Jan 1st, 2025 showing you as a "swimmer" bring it along! We will start swim checks at 7pm. Everyone planning to take a swim check should arrive by 6pm.
Saturday morning participants and guides will load up for the trip to New Bridge park. You will canoe from New Bridge to Maple Island, with a stop at Bridgetown Township Park for lunch. Once your float trip is complete, you will load the canoes and be transported back to Gerber Scout Reservation for evening activities!
Canoes, floatation devices, transportation to/from launch sites, campsite, meals and trained guides will be provided during this adventure on the Muskegon River.
Scouts should plan to bring a tent, camping gear, water bottle with carabiner, valid swim classification form (if available), and health forms. Scouts are welcome to bring a personal life jacket (marked with name & unit), but they may be swapped to a Gerber floatation device if theirs is deemed inappropriate for the circumstances.
