Wilderness First Aid Training

Event Details

Event Postponed Due to COVID-19 and to ensure the safety of our members, volunteers, families and staff, this event has been postponed.  The rescheduled date has not been determined.   Further details will be forthcoming to all registered participants. For questions or additional information, please contact the event organizer or staff member.

If you need this training so your unit can attend a High Adventure camp this summer, please reach out to Don Ray to schedule a training. Don can be reached at djray@comcast.net.

These courses will provide participants a foundation in first aid principles and skills to be able to respond to emergencies and give care in areas that do not have immediate medical services (EMS) response.

This course is approximately 16 hours long (beginning Friday evening at 7:00 pm and continuing on Saturday from 8:00 am until approximately 10:30 pm). Participants will camp in their own tents at the "pines" training site on Friday and Saturday Nights. Throughout the course, participants will be required to apply hands on skills that will be covered in class and should wear comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor exercises.  It is suggested that you bring sleeping bag, ground pad, first aid kit (that you plan to use in a High Adventure setting), flashlight, sunscreen, insect repellant and water bottle.  Also have your BSA Health Form and proof of your current CPR/AED training (within two years) or your blended learning course completion certificate.

The course fee includes a useful American Red Cross workbook and reference cards along with Friday evening snacks, Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner. The course will be limited to a maximum of 50 participants. Certification is for 2 years.  Questions on recertification or becoming current in CPR/AED should be directed to David Kelley at (248) 930-0243 email: dekelley22@gmail.com or Don Ray at (734) 455-7214 email: djray@comcast.net .
