BALOO Training – Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation

BALOO is required training for Cub Scout leaders who plan and lead overnight camping activities for their Pack or den. This course provides the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to deliver safe, age-appropriate outdoor experiences that follow BSA guidelines.

Requirement:
At least one BALOO-trained adult must be present at every Cub Scout overnight event, including Pack campouts and Webelos den overnighters.

Course Format:
BALOO has two required parts:

Online course (must be completed before the in-person session)

Overnight, hands-on training is conducted outdoors

Both components are required to be considered a trained Cub Scout outdoor leader.

Complete the online portion through the BSA Learning Center at

(Log in, open the Course Catalog, and add BALOO to your Learning Plan.)

Gear:
Participants must bring personal and sleeping gear and be prepared to spend most of the time outdoors. A recommended gear list is available in the registration attachments.
