Eastern Michigan University Merit Badge Day 2024 Huron Trails

Join service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega for a day of merit badge offerings at Eastern Michigan University! Scouts may earn up to two merit badges, provided they have completed assigned pre-work.
MERIT BADGES:
Merit Badge offerings and the schedule are linked to the event as an attachment. Scouts will need to choose (1) A and (1) B session, or they may attend for only (1) A or (1) B session. Scouts are required to read the merit badge pamphlet in full so they are prepared to be engaged and ready to discuss, describe and actively participate with your merit badge counselor! Some merit badges have been recently updated. Make sure to be aware of the current requirements too. Remember, a complete merit badge is never a guarantee, scouts need to do the work in order to receive a completed blue card.
AGENDA:
8:00 – 9:00 Check-In
9:00 – 9:10 Welcome/Pledge-Oath-Law/Announcements
9:15 – 12:00 Morning Session
12:15 – 1:15 Lunch / Info Tables
1:15 – 4:15 Afternoon Session
Event ends - No closing ceremony!
LOCATION:
The event will be held at Eastern Michigan University (900 Oakwood St, Ypsilanti, MI 48197) in Strong Hall. A map of campus, including where parking is located is linked to the event as an attachment.
PARKING:
Free parking will be available at the student center. Scouts will need to walk across campus to Strong Hall entering on the west side of the building. Parking next to the hall is strictly enforced. Participants may park there but will be charged a fee for parking in that lot. Full details are included on the map that is linked to the event as an attachment.
LUNCH:
Scouts need to bring a sack lunch or money to purchase the lunch (likely pizza) provided by APO. There is not much time for scouts to cross campus to purchase at the student center or from area restaurants.
NEW THIS YEAR:
Paid registrants will receive a custom event patch!
Updated YPT guidelines specify the need to have (2) registered leaders for programs with scouts, one of each gender when both boys and girls are present. For any registered adults planning to attend the event, your assistance would be greatly appreciated in helping to monitor rooms!
DAY OF EVENT NOTES:
It is suggested that scouts print out of the current merit badge workbook or bring an appropriate printed Google doc or notebook and pen for note taking. It is also a great way to include any thoughts or questions the scout may have prior to the event.
Wear your full uniform!
Bring a filled out Part A/B Health Form. To check out, scouts will retrieve their health forms the day of the event.
Blue cards will be uploaded and posted on the registration site a week after the merit badge day. If scouts prefer a physical blue card, they will need to provide their own fully prepared blue card that day.
LUNCHTIME VENDOR HALL:
There is an opportunity for BSA groups to attend the event to promote groups or upcoming activities. Those interested in doing so should contact Tammy Mayrend (scouter48197@gmail.com) for details.
For questions about the event, please contact Tammy Mayrend (scouter48197@gmail.com) or Joe Abel (jabel9633@gmail.com).
