Wilderness First Aid (MCC)

Course: Wilderness First Aid, Standard
Course Overview: Lifesaving skills for medical and traumatic emergencies in the wilderness. This course will teach assessment skills, like those of first responders, and how to improvise when minimal first aid equipment is available. Participants will learn about the different diseases and illnesses that may occur in the wilderness. An ideal course for those who are traveling abroad or conducting excursions in remote locations.
Course Objectives: At the end of this course participants will be able to do the following:
- Define Wilderness First Aid
- Recognize and treat various medical and trauma emergencies in the wilderness
- Improvise treatments with limited items typically carried on backpacking trips
- Improvise transportation of ill and injured patients
- Understand the basics of prioritization of multiple patients from a single incident
- Importance of evacuating severely ill and injured patients

Friday: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Course Begins
9:15 PM - 11:00 PM CPR
Saturday: 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM BREAKFAST
8:00 AM - 12:00 PM Course Continues
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM LUNCH
1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Course Continues
5:00 PM - 6:00 PM DINNER
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Scenarios, Review, and Test

Camping available at no additional charge
Cost: $100
Prerequisite: Current CPR and AED Certification from any organization. *CPR class included in the course for those who need it or want it.
Online Component: Once participants register and pay for the course they will receive an email with the link to begin the online learning process. This link will be sent within two business days of registration. All participants must complete the online Canvas portion prior to the end of the course in order to be certified.

Testing Policy: All participants must complete the final written exam with an 80% or higher.
Recommended Equipment:
- Backpack
- Flashlight
- Pad of Paper and Pen/Pencil
- Clothes (1 Field Uniform and Activity Uniforms)
- Bandana
- Belt
- Personal First Aid Kit
- Tent
- Sleeping Bag
- Tarp (optional)
- Sleeping Pad (optional)
- (2) Water bottles or Hydration pack with 2+ Liter capacity
- Any other equipment typically carried into the wilderness.
