Course Overview
Join the Michigan Crossroads Council for an engaging and hands-on COPE & Climbing Level 1 Instructor Training. This required certification course prepares participants to safely and confidently facilitate a wide range of adventure-based programs.
Training includes instruction and practical experience in:
Artificial Climbing Towers
Rappelling
Zipline Operations
Low & High COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience)
Team-Building Field Initiatives

Participants will learn essential safety procedures, facilitation techniques, and program delivery skills needed to lead both individual and group-based outdoor challenges.
Arrival & Preparation
Check-in: Friday at 6:00 PM at Venture Base, Gerber Scout Reservation
Check-out: Sunday by 11:00 AM
Participants should come prepared for all Michigan weather conditions and bring appropriate overnight camping gear for the duration of the training

Summer camp COPE & Climbing staff (required)
Volunteers supporting year-round COPE & Climbing programs
Venture Ranger candidates pursuing the COPE elective
Adults, Venturers, and older Scouts interested in high-adventure programming
Certification Requirements
All participants must successfully complete the course and pass the final evaluation to receive their official COPE & Climbing Level 1 training card.
