Public Health Merit Badge

Discover the Hidden Forces Protecting Our Community!
Ever wonder how the water from your tap stays clean, how restaurants guarantee your food is safe to eat, or how scientists stop outbreaks before they start? Welcome to the world of Public Health—where science meets community action to save lives every single day.
Public health starts with the individual but extends to the entire world. In this interactive two-part merit badge class, Scouts will dive into the fascinating systems that keep our neighborhoods safe, healthy, and thriving.
What You’ll Explore:
Disease Detectives: Learn how common viruses and bacteria (like Lyme disease, E. coli, and tetanus) spread—and the cutting-edge ways we fight back.
The Science of Sanitation: See how safe food handling, clean water treatment, and waste management serve as a shield for our towns.
Community Leadership: Discover the role of local and national public health agencies, explore exciting career paths in medicine and environmental health, and even map out a health campaign of your own!
This badge is an Eagle-required option and a brilliant choice for any Scout interested in medicine, biology, environmental science, or emergency preparedness. Come ready to discuss, discover, and learn how you can make a tangible difference in the health of your community.
