Explore the Cosmos: Astronomy Merit Badge Class

Time: 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM each night

Uncover the wonders of the night sky and complete your Scouts BSA Astronomy Merit Badge this October! Hosted at New England Sci Tech in Natick, this interactive four-session course combines hands-on STEM learning with real-world astronomical observation.

Over four evening sessions (6:30 PM to 8:30 PM), Scouts will dive into the mechanics of the universe using NEST’s specialized equipment.

Highlights include:

Telescope & Tool Mastery: Learn how light, optics, and different telescope designs work, and how to operate astronomical equipment safely.

Constellations & Night Sky Navigation: Identify major constellations, bright stars, and learn to navigate using the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia. Moon & Planetary Observation: Study lunar phases, crater features, orbital mechanics, and planet movements.

Observatory & Planetarium Access: Experience immersive sky shows in NEST’s planetarium and handle authentic space artifacts, including real meteorites!

Requirements & Prerequisites: This course covers the core requirements for the Astronomy Merit Badge. Scouts will receive guidance on completing direct-observation logs between classes.

Blue cards will be signed upon completion of all requirements.
