Snow Huskies

Recommended for all grade levels.

• Fun activities including snowshoeing, xc skiing, nature activities, initiative games
• 7:30 Friday to 2:00 pm Sunday

Spearhead

Recommended for 7th grade and above.

• Activities include shelter building, toboggan shoot, games, GPS navigation, cooking, ice climbing, snow kitting, xc skiing, broomball, snowshoeing.
• 7:30 pm Friday to 2:00 pm Sunday
• Sleep inside Friday night.

Expedition

Recommended for 7th grade and above and half of your crew will need to have already participated in the Spearhead program.

• 7:30 pm Friday to 2:00 pm Monday
• An advanced trek featuring 2 nights sleeping outside. Explore the entire Tomahawk Property while participating in winter survival, winter games and challenges - The ultimate crew winter camping skills test.

Draft Horse Logging Camp

Recommended for 7th grade and older.

Each Scout will limb a tree, and use a two-person saw to cut the tree into 16' sections. Scouts will then take turns driving a team of draft horses as they pull their log out of the woods. Scouts will cook hardy meals, blacksmith, and learn the legends of Logging in Wisconsin over a hundred years ago. 

Dates: January 13-15, January 27-29, February 3-5
Sleeping Outside: Both Friday and Saturday night will be spent in the wood heated cabin.

Dog Sledding

Recommended for 7th grade and older.

NOTE: All submissions received on opening day for Dog Sledding are a request and will be in a “pending” status to be reviewed by the Director based on previous Snow Base attendance, age and rank and notified by the end of the week of their status.

• Scouts will learn all about the sport of dog sledding with trained sled dogs and experience everything it takes to live and work with sled dogs under the guidance of an experienced musher.
• The weekend will consist of a full training program culminating in a solo sled dog run through the forest.
• Check in is between 7:30 and 8:00 Friday night; check-out is 2:00 pm on Sunday.
• Sleep and eat inside. Outdoor sleeping is optional.

Dogsledding dates: January 6-8,13-15,20-22, 27-29 & February 3-5,10-12,17-19

Winter Camp School: December 16-18, 2016

Our training will focus specifically in skills related to winter camping, outdoor first aid, cold weather food preparation, equipment selection and operation, snow shelter construction, emergency communications, outdoor nutrition, crew leadership, cold weather dress, emergency survival, and youth protection. This training session will include an outdoor overnight experience.

Winter Camp School training is available to adults and older youth. Learn how to run your own weekend winter camp from our experienced volunteer trainers. Prepares you to camp at any of our council weekend camps in the winter, or enroll as a limited service unit at Snow Base.
