Event Details

Northern Star Scouting Silver Beaver Photo/Video Session

Congratulations on being selected for the Silver Beaver Award!  We are excited to be a part of your recognition as we prepare for our March 20th 2021 Council Volunteer Recognition Event.

This registration is to secure your slot for our photo/ video session on Saturday February 13th at the Leadership Center (6202 Bloomington Rd Fort Snelling, MN 55111).

Biography Information

In your email notification you received a copy of your Silver Beaver Award biography.  Please review this and make any edits, clarifications, etc. as you see fit.  Upon review and approval by you, please return to Jeff Pastir at (Jpastir@aol.com).  Please have these reviewed and returned no later than February 8th, 2021.

Visual Montage

A tradition and vital part of the Silver Beaver Award presentation is the photo montage that is shared with the audience during the reading of your biography.

Please compile some photos of you inside and outside of Scouting.  Share with the audience something about you, scouts, family, your hobbies or activities, that define you and support the narrative of your biography.

Please email these to Peter Johnson (peterjbsa@aol.com) by February 8th.  If the file is too big to email, please plan to bring with you for the February 13th videotaping.  When emailing please try and forward all photos all together at the same time in multiple emails as needed, labeled with your name, for easier identification by Peter.

Photo/ Video

We will be recording the presentation of your Silver Beaver Award on Saturday February 13th, 2021 at the Northern Star Scouting Leadership Center.  You should plan on about an hour-and-half to two hours for your visit.  You will process through a handful of "stations" during your time window.  Currently this is the plan:

  • Station #1: First you and your presenter will go thru the check in station including a COVID clearance check.
  • Station #2: Next you will move on to the Interview Room where a pair of staff volunteers will do a final review of your submitted and revised biography.
  • Station #3: You and your presenter will move to the Photography Room, where you will have a series of photographs.
  • Station #4: Next, you and your presenter are videoed performing the presentation of the Silver Beaver Award. (your presenter is welcome to leave at this point).  Stations 3 and 4 may be combined into one station.
  • Station #5: Finally, you will move to the "studio" for the recording of a short interview with our event MC's.  In the interview preparation section below are a set of questions that may be asked of you during the interview - please review these ahead of time so that you can formulate how you would best like to respond.

Considerations

When attending you will need to make sure you bring and consider the following items:

  • COVID - COVID protocols will be in place so everyone MUST have a mask.
  • Attire - You must wear your Scout uniform that should be in photo worthy condition for the Silver Beaver photo. Please remove any pins for this photo. Presenters are encouraged to wear scout uniforms as well. If they don’t have a uniform, wear a nice suit or dress.
  • Presenters - you may select anyone you like to present the award.  It can be the person who nominated you, a long-time scout friend or family member.  We encourage one person and they should plan on attending with you on the 13th as you will be receiving your recognition Silver Beaver ribbon and certificate at this time.

Interview Preparation:

  1. Why have you remained active and what do you like to do most in Scouting?'
  2. What has been your most meaningful experience in Scouting?'
  3. What do you feel is the most important characteristic of a Scout Leader?
  4. Often times, Scouts are asked during a Board of Review, “What is the most important point of the scout Law?”  How would you answer that?
  5. Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know about you? (hobby, travel, unique experience, brush with fame, etc.)
