Chemistry Merit Badge Day 

Overview

On Saturday April 4th, Alpha Chi Sigma (the professional chemistry and chemical engineering fraternity) will offer a Chemistry Merit Badge course for area Scouts BSA members.  With the support of the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities), Alpha Chi Sigma will host the Merit Badge course at Bruininks Hall on the East Bank portion of the Twin Cities campus.  Scouts will have to complete one prerequisite requirement that is listed below, but will otherwise cover the remaining requirements as a part of the weekend course.  Read on for more event information, and we hope to see you on campus this Spring!        

Event Details 

Date: Saturday April 4th

Time: 8:30AM-12:30PM

Cost: $30 for youth members (adult chaperons may attend at no-cost).  It is recommended that each individual youth registrant have an adult chaperon - larger groups (e.g. a Troop or Patrol) should follow appropriate supervision requirements according to the Guide to Safe Scouting.  

*All merit badge participants must be pre-registered due to limited space.  Fees include materials.  

Location: Bruininks Hall - University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (222 Pleasant St SE Minneapolis, MN 55455).  Specific arrival instructions will be provided to registered participants.  Due to the venue location, participants will need to park in a designated ramp and walk to course check-in location.  Parking will not be provided as part of the event, so attendees will need to plan accordingly

Prerequisite Requirement

Scouts will complete all of the requirements except for 4(a).  A detail of the prerequisite requirement, as well as notes and recommendations on pre-event preparation are located via the hyperlink here, or in the attachments section on the right-hand side of this page. 

For Scouts to complete the entire Merit Badge on the day of the course, they must bring their observations from requirement 4(a) to present to the instructors.  

Additional Event Information

- Scouts are encouraged to wear their field uniforms ("Class A" uniforms) to the Merit Badge Day event.  

- Each youth participant needs to bring a pre-approved Merit Badge "blue card" to the event.  Please note that this event has a prerequisite requirement, and to complete the Merit Badge the day of the event, that requirement must be completed in advance.   

- All participants, youth and adult, need to bring a completed Annual Health and Medical record (parts A-B) to submit at check-in.  

- Please note there is a limit of 35 Scouts per course offering for this event.  A waitlist will be used once the limit of Scouts is reached.  If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration by the Sunday prior to the event at 11:59 PM so that your slot may be used by a youth on the waiting list.

- Lunch will not be provided as a part of the event.
