Fourth Annual Base Camp Backyard Family Campout

Join us for Base Camp’s fourth annual backyard family campout in the wild surroundings of Base Camp! Afternoon activities include games, a guided hike in the natural and historical area, and climbing on the outdoor tower. Evening activities include camp setup, dinner cookout, campfire with s’mores, games, night hike, and stargazing before turning in for the night. Participants are not required to spend the night and may depart as desired. In the morning we will wake up for a hot breakfast before packing up and taking part in an optional morning archery session. All food is provided. Campers are encouraged to bring their own equipment if possible, though a number of sleeping bags, mats and tents are available onsite upon request to those who need them.

Ages: All. Youth must attend with an adult (children 5 and under may attend for free at discretion of parent or guardian. Overnight portion is optional and participants may elect to leave at any time during the evening program)
 

Itinerary

Saturday
3:00PM, check-in and arrival games led by Base Camp staff
3:30PM, guided hike around the historic and natural area, outdoor climbing (rain plan: indoor climbing, archery, games)
5:00PM, setup campsite on Base Camp lawn, dinner cookout provided
7:30PM, evening activities (campfire activities and s'mores, stargazing night hike)
10:30PM, quiet time and sleep

Sunday
7:00-9:00AM, wake up and breakfast
9:00AM, pack and cleanup campsite
10:30AM, optional morning archery session, participants may depart
12:00PM, event ends
 

What’s included

Food: Dinner (hotdogs), s'mores, and hot breakfast options
Equipment: Sleeping bags, mats, and tents (if needed)
Staff leaders throughout the program

Rain plan/campsite conditions: Due to extreme river conditions this spring, the group campsite in Fort Snelling State Park is closed for restoration and we will be unable to use it for this event. As indicated above, the event will be held on the Base Camp property, and in the case of severe weather,the decision may be made to move the  campout inside Base Camp where indoor activities will be substituted. Event will occur rain or shine.
