Tuesday April 26th - Double-Feature - Cub Scout Leader Extravaganza at Philmont AND Advancement for Scouts with Special Needs/Disabilities

Cub Scout Leader Extravaganza at Philmont – Dennis Kampa

Located in Northeast New Mexico, Philmont is one of Scouting’s premier locations for Boy Scouts of America training. This summer during the week of Jul 24-30, 2022, sessions are offered for Cub Scout Leaders, divided into five tracks. These include: Cub Scout Fun! - Growing, Supporting and Sustaining Your Pack – Outdoor Skills/Outdoor Adventure – The Game of Scouting/Managing Transitions – Super Leader Xtras!  And you can bring your family to enjoy the family program offered by the Philmont Training Center. While you are engaged in these exciting training options, your kids and spouse will have fun adventures around Philmont Scout Ranch geared for their age group.

Advancement for Scouts with Special Needs/Disabilities – Rick Smith

Cubs and Scouts can participate and advance in rank regardless of their abilities. Advancement rules are carefully crafted to provide alternatives for Scouts with disabilities or significant developmental delays.

Wednesday April 27th -Double-Feature - Special Needs & Disabilities - Committee Liaison AND Summer Camping/Talking to Parents

Special Needs & Disabilities (SND) - Committee Liaison - Rich Greiner
Be a part of the expanding special needs & disabilities landscape in Northern Star council. The newly established SND council committee is recruiting: each district will appoint a liaison to serve as a conduit of information and needs between the committee and district. Learn all about this new role and how you will make a lasting impact on Scouting youth of all abilities.

Summer Camping with Special Needs, Disabilities and Talking to Parents - Rich Greiner

Camping can be more than Mosquitos and Marshmallows! Get the tools you need for a successful summer camping experience for ALL of your scouts.  Talk about how to deal with the challenges, Merit Badges, Swimming Requirements and food, just to name a few topics. Discuss methods for how to approach many challenges in regard to scout outings with all scouts.

Tuesday May 3rd - Cub Scout Annual Program Planning – Jay Herbrand

Building a solid year-round Cub Scout program means having a great event schedule, including during the Summer. It also needs the leaders, parent volunteers and budget to support your goals. We will explore program organization, planning, communication, training and awards. We will include ceremonies and Pack Meetings, Den and Committee Meeting scheduling and camping, exciting outings, activities and adventures to keep your unit's Scouting family engaged for a full 12 months!

Wednesday May 11th - Campfire Program Planning Basics – Marilyn West

Learn how to plan a great campfire. Cubs have plenty of requirements to show off their talents at a campfire program and you will learn how to include everyone for a fun-filled meeting worth remembering. You'll find out why we do them, how to plan, and how to make it more than a regular pack meeting.

Tuesday May 17th - Museums and Community Resources for Scouting — Where Are the Best Places to Go With the Kids in My Unit?– John Guthmann

Museums in Scouting
Community field trips comprise some of the most fun, memorable, and educational experiences kids have in Scouting. Learn how to leverage museums and other community venues and resources in your Scouting program. We will identify and discuss some of the “tried and true” venues, how to work with them, and how you can dovetail their programs with the needs of the kids in your unit. Perfect for Cub Scout leaders and Scouts BSA leaders looking for advancement projects, community service, and just getting out of the house.

Tuesday June 7th - Cub Scout Leader Resources 101 – Ryan McDonald

Ever wonder what to do next? Wondering who to speak to for more information? Where to look when you need to figure out something for the Pack? We'll walk you through a handful of resources outside of the normal paths that may help you be a more effective Den Leader or Committee member in your Pack. We won't be tackling Scoutbook but we'll be sharing some other resources to help you get your feet pointed in the right direction on the scouting path.
