Casco Bay and York District Klondike Derby

Hello Casco Bay and York District Units:

It’s time to prepare for the Klondike Derby! Temps are dropping and might even reach Sub Zero. Layer up and join us at Camp Hinds on February 6-7, 2026!

Compete with patrols from Casco Bay and York Districts in the 2026 Sub Zero Klondike Derby.  Earn points for:

Winter Camping: Sleep outside Friday night, Feb 6.  Extra points for no tent!

Klondike Derby (Saturday, Feb. 7): Pack light because you can only bring what fits in your sled when you and your patrol power through the Sub Zero terrain. Supplies are limited and more resources are nowhere to be found, or found but frozen in ice. To make it from challenge to challenge it will be a rewarding journey. You and your patrol should start preparing for the journey now and practice your winter camping skills so that you are as comfortable as possible in these conditions. Keeping morale high is necessary and should not be overlooked, so get your team ready to bring home the Sub Zero trophy!

Registration is now open!  Cost for the Klondike Derby is $10/scout for early registration (before January 23, 2025) and $15/scout after that.  When registering, you do not need to identify scouts by name but can simply register for the approximate number of scouts coming. Early registration helps us plan a better event!  Register here!

Please note that if your scouts and adults are staying overnight on Friday, please choose the "overnight" option when registering. For scouts and adults who are just coming for the day event please choose the "Day Visitor" registration option.

The current Leader’s Guide for the Klondike is attached with more details; this is subject to change and updates will be provided. 

Cold Weather Troop Training: Troop One is conducting their cold weather training in advance of the Klondike and you are invited!  Adult and Scout leaders (SPLs, ASPLs, etc.) are welcome to join in at no charge. This training, based on the Northern Tier program, is designed to help troops succeed at camping in the snow without expensive gear.  Training will take place 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at the Camp Hinds Dining Hall. If interested, please contact Tom Miskell.
