2018 Powderhorn Training Course

Event Details

POWDERHORN is the Boy Scouts of America’s high adventure expedition training course.  It is designed to help adult and youth leaders become comfortable and knowledgable in the planning and conducting of safe and fun high adventure programs.  The course is open to all Boy Scout and Venture Crew adult leaders, all Venture Scout youth, and Boy Scout youth leaders who are 13 years old and First Class rank or above. 

In 2018 the POWDERHORN course will be conducted over a series of consecutive weekday evenings, at the LL Bean Flagship Store in Freeport, Maine.  

The Cost of the training will be $50.00 per person.  Classes will begin at 6:30 pm and will conclude approximately at 7:30 pm.

Participants must attend 10 of the 14 CLASS dates to complete POWDERHORN.

Feb 21 - CLASS - Winter Outdoor Survival

Feb 28 - CLASS - Cross Country Skiing Essentials

Review equipment, what to wear and where to go

Mar 7 - CLASS – Wildlife Tracking 101

Learn how to identify animals by their tracks

Mar 14 – CLASS – Winter Star Gazing

Learn common constellations and planets and what tools to use

Mar 21 - CLASS – Camp Cooking

Recommended stoves and set-up, recipes, food selection and safety

Mar 28 - CLASS – Introduction to Tenkara Fly Fishing

Learn about this simple but highly effective fishing method
