Religious Emblem Saturday

Event Details

Religious Emblem Saturday

What: An opportunity for Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA to earn the religious emblem for their faith, Catholic or Protestant.

Note: “Protestant” includes Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Episcopalian, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Church of God, Disciples of Christ, Non-denominational, and many others.

Who:

  • Catholic: open to Scouts in grades 1–12
  • Protestant: open to Scouts in grades K–6

When:

  • Catholic: Saturday, 5 December, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Protestant: Two Saturdays, 5 December and 23 January, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (Protestant Scouts should plan to attend both sessions.)

Where: Camp Edgewood, DeQuincy, LA

Why: Religious emblems are designed to help Scouts grow in their faith while learning more about God, prayer, and serving others.  The Scouting religious-emblems program encourages Scouts to strengthen their relationship with God, their families, and their communities.  Scouts who earn the religious emblem for their faith and age group will receive a medallion and certificate at a later time (typically Scout Sunday, 7 February), and they may wear a distinctive recognition knot on their uniform.

How: Scouts will split into age-level groups to:

  • Learn about God through a curriculum based in the Bible
  • Discuss what it means to love and obey God within a family
  • Enjoy outdoor activities, such as hiking and archery

Cost: $20 includes

  • The student workbook for the Scout’s age level
  • Activity supplies
  • Snacks

(Overnight camping on Friday is available for an additional $3/person)

To Bring:

  • Lunch
  • Bible (not needed for youngest Scouts)
  • Clothing appropriate for outdoor activities (including raingear)
  • Cub Scout six essentials (including canteen or water bottle)
