Dubuque District Pinewood Derby

Dubuque District Pinewood Derby
Date: Sunday, April 7, 2022
Check-In: 2:30-3:00 P.M.
Location: Resurrection School Gym, 4320 Asbury Road, Dubuque (enter in through DOOR 2, Closest to Sam's)
Cost per Race Car: $5.00, Spectators and Pit Crew (non-racers) are free
Who: All Cub Scouts, youth Checking Out Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA and Parents.
Compete with other District Cub Scouts for bragging rights as well as awards. Trophies will be awarded to the fastest cars in each category. Three race catergories are:
1) Winners Circle Cub Scouts,
2) Grade School Youth (Cub Scouts and non-Scouts) and
3) Middle & High School (SBSA and non-Scouts) + Parents (Outlaws).
A snack station will be selling items to support the our hosting Scouting Troop 91 and Resurrection Youth Ministries.
Rules and regulations for Cub Scouters and Youth Checking Out Cub Scouts is attached (see righ side of registration).
SBSA + Parents, like Outlaws, here's your rules:
● All vehicles must fit in the length, width, & height box (7” L x 2¾” W x 4” H)
● All vehicles must clear the center guide strip of the track (⅜” H x 1¾” W)
● Vehicles must weigh 10 OZ or less (as to not damage the tracks)
● All decorations/attachments must be securely affixed
● “Pre-cut” kit vehicles will be allowed
● The axles can be machined/polished
● The wheels can be sanded, machined, or changed as long as vehicle has the correct clearances
● No lubricating oil allowed. Only graphite powder
● The vehicle must be freewheeling with No type of Motors, engines, rocket engines, CO2, or other propulsion may be used.
Special awards will be provided to the top 3 racers in these categories.
Building Your Pinewood Derby Car
1) Purchase your Pinewood Derby Block of Wood and accessories at your local Scout Shop on 10601 Military Road. Did you know when you buy from your local Scout shop, your money stays to build local Cub Scouting Events and Programs?
2) Design your car on paper. Have a plan!
3) Gather all tools needed to execute your plans. Reminder: Cub Scouts are to use non-Power Tools per the Guide to Safe Scouting!
4) Execute plans and add all remaining pieces to the car's puzzle (i.e. wheels, decals or paint).
5) Race your car on a flat service and check for any repairs needing to be made. An example is if your car does not go straight-forward, it may have one wheel needing to be recalibrated.
Category will be assigned by District Program Committee and Cubmasters. Unit race does not need to be completed prior to registration.
