BALOO Training

BALOO stands for Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation. This course is designed to introduce Cub Scout leaders to the exciting opportunities for Pack overnight camping. BALOO is also a required certification training for all Packs planning an overnight campout. 
 
The BALOO course will cover everything you need to know in order to plan and run a safe and fun pack overnighter. BALOO training is about more than just camping-the course includes ideas for outdoor activities, games, and ceremonies; information on selecting and using camping equipment; how to run a campfire program; and hands-on Cub Scout cooking demonstrations! In short, everything you need to know to make your pack overnighter a fun, successful and BSA approved event! 
 
BALOO Training Date:  Friday, September 12 - Saturday, September 13, 2025
Check In: 5-5:30 PM Friday
Course Completion: 12 PM Saturday
Location:  Camp Burton
Cost: $40 (covers all meals and training materials)
Prerequisite: Take BALOO Prerequisite Training V2 online at my.scouting.org, Be a Registered Adult Leader*
Limit: 20 Scouters
Registration and Payment Deadline:  Tuesday, September 9, 2025
 
Why Should I Attend?
At least one adult leader must be BALOO trained in order for a Cub Scout Pack to participate in overnight camping. The course will cover everything you need to know in order to plan and run a safe and fun pack overnighter.
 
Pre-Course Work
BALOO training is comprised of two components - an online component, and a practical, hands-on component. Both components must be completed to qualify as a"trained" Cub Scout outdoor leader. The online component is available through theBSA LearnCenter at my.scouting.org and must be completed prior to the practical component - please bring your certificate.

This practical portion of BALOO is an overnight camping experience and will coverGPS, aquatics, gear selection, nature & hiking, outdoor ethics, cooking &sanitation, first aid, cub scout knife safety and much, much more.

  • BSA Medical Form (Parts A&B)
  • BALOO Pre-requisite Training certificate

  • Sleeping bag/pad/mattress
