Fishing Derby & Family Camping

Catch a big one...

Date: August 14-15
Location: Lake John Deere at Camp C.S. Klaus
Cost: $3 per fisher (in Derby) and $10 per family campsite

Friday: Camping check-in 5-7 PM  |  Fishing Clinic 7 PM  |  Movie 9 PM
Saturday: Fishing 7-11 AM

Bears: This is a good time to start work on your Bear Elective Adventure: A Bear Goes Fishing.
Scouts BSA Members: This is a good time to start the Fishing Merit Badge.

All fishing need to bring their own fishing pole, bait, and food/drinks. A Fishing license is required for anyone over 16 years of age per state of Iowa Law.

Families are invited to camp overnight in the parade grounds. A movie will be shown on Friday night (weather permitting). Bring your own tent and camping supplies. Above ground fires will be the only campfires allowed.

Open to Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA members, Venturers, Explorers, and Scouting families.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of fish are available to catch in Lake John Deere? Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Channel Catfish and some Trout.

Is this Catch and Release fishing? No you are welcome to keep all the fish you catch.

What do I need to bring with me? Fishers need to bring their own fishing equipment including bait. Campers need to bring all camping equipment. 

Can I bring my RV camper? Sorry, Camp Klaus is not equipped for campers. Tents only.

Can I bring my dog/pet? Sorry, non-service animals are not allowed at Camp Klaus.

Can I bring a boat? Sorry, boats will not be used for the fishing day.

Can I camp without fishing? Absolutely! 

Can I fish without camping? Absolutely!

Is drinking water available? Please bring your own drinking water. We cannot guarantee drinking water will be available for this event.

Can my Scout bring a friend who is thinking about Scouting? Yes! We would love to show them the fun of Scouting when they attend with a responsible Scouting family.

Do all youth need to be registered? No. We welcome all family members, and friends thinking about joining Scouting.

Will wood be available for burning? No.

What time can I start setting up my campsite? Registration will begin at 5:00 PM. You are welcome to arrive anytime after 5:00 PM and set-up as you see fit.

Will I be able to park by my camping spot? Unfortunately no. All vehicles will be parked in our parking lot which is a short walk to all camping sites.
