Cub Scout Outdoor Opportunities

The Dubuque County Conservation Board is hosting several events tha can help Cub Scout earn belt loops and acheivements. Be sure to get these on your calendar and get registered!

Geology Belt Loop: Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos Geology

Have a rock'n time learning about the hardest things on earth: rocks! You will learn about the three types of rocks, how our land was formed, identify fossils, visit an alluvial fan and make a pet rock.

Backyard Adventure: Outdoor Tiger Cub Elective Night

Spend the evening at the Swiss Valley Nature Center completing some electives. Participants will take a hike, identify two species of native birds, make a bird feeder, and learn the sounds of the forest with a leader.

Grow Something: Wolf Cub Scout Achievement

An expert with the Iowa State University Extension will help explain our growing zones, we will plant a seed and care for it as well as journal about it for 30 days, and participants will see examples of community gardens and learn the importance of growing their own food.

Fur, Feathers, and Ferns: Bear Cub Scout Achievement

Earn your achievement by spending the evening at the Swiss Valley Nature Center and Preserve. You will have the opportunity to learn about native animals, endangered, extinct or threatened animals, observe wildlife, use magnifying glass/microscope, and composting.

No Rainouts! All programs can be adapted to indoor activities if necessary. Please dress appropriately for the weather. All programs will be held at the Swiss Valley Nature Center.

General Scout Rules. Only registered Scouts may attend programs. Scout/adult ratios must be followed.
