Wilderness First Aid

Overview:

If you are participating in a scouting experience where ambulances or medical care is more than 30 minutes away, you should consider taking a wilderness first aid class.  This course will give you the skills and confidence to care for yourself and your team on remote adventures.

This year, the Mid-Iowa Council is partnering with the Emergency Care and Safety Institute (ECSI) to offer a blended learning program. This program includes an online course hosted on the ECSI website, followed by an in-person skill session at camp Mitigwa.  In order to participate, students need to be at least 14 years old and hold an active CPR certification.

Registering for the online course is done here: https://www.ecsinstitute.org/scouting-wfa

Registering for the skills session is done here: https://www.scoutingevent.com/177-WildernessFirstAid2024

  • We will begin at 9:00 am.
  • This session will take 8 hours to complete, plus a short break for lunch

Instructors Wanted

To meet the demands for this certification, the Mid-Iowa Council is looking for more instructors to help.  If you are a scout leader who has a background in healthcare, you are probably eligible to be an instructor for this program.   Details can be found here: https://www.ecsinstitute.org/scouting
