Prairie Winds Fall Camporee

Event Details

Prairie Winds District
Fall Cycling Camporee
Earl Grimm Park,
Slater, Iowa
September 16-18, 2022

Sign your Scouts and adults up for the Prairie Winds Fall Cycling Camporee.

This event is for Scouts BSA youth and Second-Year Webelos. We ask that Webelos who attend do so as a guest of a Scouts BSA Troop. Your Scouts will have the opportunity to work on part of Cycling merit badge and complete at least one of the required bike rides. We will be offering guided rides in lengths of 10, 15, 25, and 50 miles on the High Trestle Trail heading west and south from Slater. Scouts who choose not to ride, may take a nature hike where they will have the opportunity to identify 10 native plants and / or animals. Second-Year Webelos will be able to take part in a special 10 mile ride. We also require that adults working with Webelos take part in their 10 mile bike ride.

Register by Tuesday, Sept 13th. Please indicate what length ride each Scout and adult is intending to do that day, so we can schedule the ride leaders and group departure times. There will be plenty of opportunities for adults to participate, either as riders on the trail or as leaders in the other activities. This will be a fun camporee for everyone.

We will also provide other fun activities for your Scouts while not on a bike ride. The Troops will be camping in the outfield of the softball diamond at Eark Grimm Park in Slater. Please, no ground campfires or raised fire pits. We will hold a District campfire on Saturday evening.
Please Be Prepared for the bike rides. Both riders and bikes need to be in good shape, so plan on doing some training rides to get ready, and test your abilities and equipment. Plan to start your troop working on the Cycling merit badge now, with the goal of doing the 50-mile ride during this event!

All bikes will need to be inspected to confirm that they’re in good condition for the rides. We ask that you have your bikes inspected before the camporee at one of the participating bike shops in the district using the inspection form.

Please bring a printed copy of the inspection form with you to the bike shop.
