This is the in-person training portion for the Wilderness First aid certification. This training is necessary for leaders to take units to BSA high adventure camps. It is a Red Cross Certification Class.
Unlike first aid classes you may have taken in the past, this course is less focused on individual skills and more focused on your ability to assess the clinical condition of a patient and to make longer term care decisions. This class is also heavily focused on teamwork and decision making. We expect students to be physically capable of the activities. We will make accommodations where we can, but we will not be sitting in a classroom for much of this class. We will be outdoors (weather depending) for large parts of the training. Please bring clothing and equipment appropriate for the expected weather. While we will cover hot and cold weather emergencies as a part of the training. Real world experience through valuable for the learning is not required.
The normal fee for this class will be $100 per person with a reduced fee for Scout leaders to cover equipment costs and the Red Cross certification.
