Event Details

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills training is a course about teaching young boys the outdoor skills practiced by Boy Scouts.  As a leader, you must be familiar with approved Scouting practices and teaching methods. 

Del-Mi District also offers leader training days where position-specific training courses are completed.

Participants will complete these activities as prerequisites outside the course with their home troop, and discuss them during the course:

  • Flag Ceremony
  • Campfire Program
  • Interfaith Worship Service
  • Camp Cooking in Groups
  • Campsite Selection and Set-up
  • The Patrol Method

Participants will complete these hands-on activities during the course:

  • First Aid (not certification)
  • Map & Compass
  • Plant & Animal Identification
  • Camp Cooking Demonstration (and lunch provided)
  • Camping & Hiking Gear and Techniques
  • Ropes, Knots, & Lashings
  • Woods Tools - Knife, Saw, Axe, etc.
  • Campfire Safety and Methods
  • Leave No Trace Awareness
  • Camping and Hiking Gear and Techniques
  • Ropes, Knots, and Lashings
  • Woods Tools - Knife, Saw, Axe, etc.
  • Campfire Safety & Methods
  • Leave No Trace Awareness

Optional Instruction is available on the differences between Webelos and Boy Scout outdoor skills.  With completion of this additional session, leaders will receive credit for both Boy Scout and Webelos Outdoor Skills.
