The Trainer's EDGE is BSA's latest version of the Training Conference replacing the Trainer Development Conference (BSA 500) as the required train-the-trainer course for NYLT and Wood Badge staffs. It is meant to supplement the practice offered through Wood Badge and NYLT staff development, with a focus on the participant, while raising the level of skill a trainer brings to the staff experience. Only practice can polish these skills, but this course is intended to “train the trainer” on behaviors and resources while offering hands-on experience in methods and media. The primary target of this conference is Scouters who will be delivering training to leaders as well as to youth members in all parts of the Scouting program.

Who should attend?

  •        NYLT Staff (required)
  •        Wood Badge Staff (required)
  •        FOS Presenters
  •        District Training Teams
  •        Council Training Teams
  •        Pack/ Troop/ Crew Trainers
  •        Round Table Staff
  •        Merit Badge Counselors
  •        OA Unit Election Teams
  •        Pack Trainers
  •        Anyone wanting to update their training skills

The Trainer's EDGE incorporates numerous contemporary training techniques and emphasizes the importance of experiential learning, or "learning by doing." The training sessions not only demonstrate good training methods, but give participants an opportunity to interact and practice what they have learned. Every youth deserves a well trained leader, and every leader deserves a well trained trainer.

Registration fee is $10.00 per person – this helps cover the cost of program materials. Lunch will be provided. Please wear your official field uniform.

You need to preregister for this event as you MUST bring a prepared presentation (5-7 min.) on a Scouting topic of your choice.

Participants are given an opportunity to practice their presentation, using materials, equipment, and/or props that they bring with them to the course.
