In Hoosier Trails Council, NYLT provides participants with the knowledge and skills required to effectively lead a troop program. Overall, participants will walk away from course with greater confidence in their ability to communicate, teach, and solve problems. Our hope is that each participant takes what they learn and applies their new skills at the troop and district level. 

The NYLT course simulates one month in the life of a troop within a six-day course.

Participants are grouped together with scouts from all over Indiana into patrols of four to six members.

Throughout the week, each patrol develops friendships and lifelong memories as they learn how to incorporate modern ideas of leadership into their own leadership styles.

Content is delivered in a troop and patrol outdoor setting with an emphasis on immediate application of learning in a fun environment. Interconnecting concepts and work processes are introduced early, built upon, and aided by the use of memory aids, which allows participants to understand and employ the leadership skills much faster.

NYLT integrates the best of modern leadership theory with the traditional strengths of the Scouting experience. Through activities, presentations, challenges, discussions, and audio-visual support, NYLT participants will be engaged in a unified approach to leadership that will give them the skills and confidence to lead well, not only in scouting, but in all areas of their lives. Through a wide range of activities, games, and adventures, participants will work and play together as they put into action the best Scouting has to offer.

Limited participant spots are available so register now before they are filled! Participant cost is $370. A deposit of $50 will hold your scout's spot for the 2025 NYLT course. A discounted rate of $345 is available to all who register and pay in full by March 25, 2025. Final payment is due by April 30, 2025. Limited scholarships are available.
