National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)

Ready to begin your leadership adventure?
NYLT is an immersive, high-energy leadership experience designed to help Scouts develop the confidence and skills needed to lead effectively -- in their troop, community, and beyond.
What is NYLT? NYLT is a six-day course that simulates one month in the life of a troop.
Participants will:
- Strengthen communication skills
- Learn how to teach and lead others
- Practice problem-solving and decision-making
- Build confidence in their leadership abilities
- Apply modern leadership concepts in real time
How the Course Works
- Scouts are placed in mixed-gender patrols of 4-6 participants
- Patrols include Scouts from across Indiana
- The course takes place in an outdoor troop and patrol setting
- Leadership skills are taught and immediately practiced through:
- Activites
- Presentations
- Challenges
- Discussions
- Games
Concepts are introduced early in the week and built upon each day, helping participants quickly understand and apply what they learn.
What Scouts Gain
- Practical leadership tools they can use right away
- Lifelong friendships and memories
- Greater confidence to lead in Scouting and in life
NYLT blends modern leadership theory with the traditions and stengths of the Scouting experience.
