New Horizon District - 2023 Lincoln Pilgrimage - A Scout is Friendly

Event Details

Join us for a weekend of activities and rememberance as we gather to honor our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln.  

There are two packages to choose from, the Legacy package, which includes camping at Camp Illinek, Saturday program, and the Sunday program and march. The Footsteps package includes access to Saturday program. The “Legacy” package can be picked up at your campsite; the “Footsteps” package can be picked up on  Saturday at the Lincoln Trail check-in station in New Salem State Park or Camp Illinek. 

Program Options for Saturday include 3 options, The Presidental Museum, the Lincoln Trail Hike, or the Lincoln Trail Bicycle Trail.

Presidential Museum - Experience Lincoln's life through immersive displays. The Museum is open daily from 9:00 am 5:00 pm. Last entry is 4:00 pm.

Plus one of the following:

Oak Ridge Trail - Hiking trails at cemetery; three levels of length and skill

Heritage Trail Experience - Visit at least 5 sites in the area with strong connections to President Lincoln, like Old Capitol and Railroad Depot.

New Salem Experience - Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site and recreated frontier town. An ideal trek for Cub Scouts.

New Salem Trail -  Several miles of trails on the east side of Lincoln’s New Salem.

Museum Scavenger Hunt - Get your passport authenticated at a minimum of five museums and submit an essay on a topic covered at one of the museums to their Unit Leader to complete the Museum Trail Patch. Ideal for Cub Scouts.

Lincoln Trail Hike (No Presidential Museum)

The Lincoln Tail is a strenuous 19-mile hike, and hikers under the age of 11 are not allowed. All hikers can start on the trail as early as 6 a.m. and must be on the trail by 9:15 a.m. on Saturday. Completion time varies depending on start time and speed. Ideally all hikers will be at station 4 by 3:00 PM and off the trail no later than 4:00 p.m. The Lincoln Trail is a full day event for hikers.

Lincoln Trail Bicycle Trail (No Presidential Museum)

-- 25 Miler Patch for completing 1 "loop" from Centennial Park to Irwin Rd and returning to Centennial Park (including spur to Stuart Park)

-- 50 Miler Patch for completing 2 "loops" from Centennial Park to Irwin Rd and returning to Centennial Park (Including spur to Stuart Park)
