NRA Range Safety Officer Training

Sunday, January 31, 2027 - Camp Loud Thunder

Help keep shooting sports safe, organized, and enjoyable by becoming a trained NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO)!

Hosted by the Illowa Council Range & Target Activities Committee, this one-day course is designed for adults interested in learning the skills and procedures needed to safely supervise range activities. The training is open to Scouters and non-Scouters age 21 and older—you do not need to be currently involved in Scouting to participate.

Throughout the course, participants will learn about Range Safety Officer roles and responsibilities, operating procedures, range inspections and rules, firearm stoppages and malfunctions, range safety briefings, and emergency procedures.

• Course: 7:30 AM–5:00 PM
• Location: Camp Loud Thunder, 9906 175th St. W., Illinois City, IL
• Cost: $50 per person
• Who: Scouters and non-Scouters, age 21 and older

Participants should bring a pencil, pen, highlighter, paper, and their own lunch. Training will be held indoors, so please dress appropriately.
