NRA Rifle Instructor Training

November 13-15, 2026 * Camp Loud Thunder

Build the skills and knowledge needed to serve as an NRA Rifle Instructor during this intensive weekend training hosted by the Illowa Council Range & Target Activities Committee.

Course Details

• Dates: November 13–15, 2026
• Check-In: Friday at 6:30 p.m.
• Course Begins: Friday at 7:00 p.m.
• Course Ends: Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
• Location: Camp Loud Thunder, 9906 175th St W, Illinois City, IL
• Cost:
  • $95 for Scouting members;
  • $250 for non-Scouts

The registration fee includes NRA course materials, lodging, and meals.

Participants should bring 200 rounds of .22 Long Rifle ammunition.

Those who successfully complete the course will also be responsible for an additional NRA certification fee.

Scouting members who receive the reduced registration rate are asked to volunteer at three to four council range and target activities events within their council during the next two program years.

Prerequisite

The NRA requires all Rifle Instructor candidates to successfully complete the NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course before attending instructor training, regardless of previous shooting experience. Illowa Council will offer the prerequisite course on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

Registration is open through November 8, 2026, at midnight. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.Questions
