OKPIK Cold Weather Training

Event Details

Our OKPIK Cold Weather Camping Training Course is a “High Adventure” training program that expands Scouts and Venturers plus adult Scouters and advisors' knowledge of how to prepare themselves and plan for the proper nutrition and equipment when the high temperature of the day is 50 degrees or below with inclement weather.

MINIMUM YOUTH REQUIREMENTS 

  • First Class Scout 
  • 14 years old
  • Has the Camping Merit Badge

The objectives of the Cold Weather Camping Training Course (previously called OKPIK) are to:

  1. Build confidence in the participant’s ability and excitement to camp all year round.
  2. Expand each unit/crew’s outdoor program.
  3. Provide experienced Scouts / Venturers and Scouters / Advisors who can and will share the Cold Weather Training with their unit/crew.

Safeguarding Youth Training Required: All adult participants must provide their SYT Completion Date, and must be "current" (cannot be expired) at the time of the event.

This course is limited to the first 50 registrants.

REQUIRED: The Course consists of three Classroom periods and an Outdoor practical. All sessions must be completed fully to finish the Cold Weather Camping Training Course.

The classroom sessions will be held at our office: The Kasperson Center for Scouting, 850 Forest Edge Dr, Vernon Hills, IL 60061. A Scout uniform is expected for all classroom sessions.

The outdoor session will be held at Camp Sol R. Crown, 11651 304th Ave. (County Road B), Trevor, WI 53179

NORTHEAST ILLINOIS SCOUTING AMERICA REGISTERED ADULTS: AFTER we verify that Adults who completed this course are registered with one of our NEIC Units, we will refund the course fee.
