Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) for Cub Scout Leaders

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) training is a day of fun and learning, which will help pack leaders plan and carry out a quality "entry-level" outdoor experience for the Cub Scouts and their families. Participants will better understand the laws of the BSA and camp programming while acquiring the skills and confidence to host a successful campout by increasing their knowledge of available resources and using national and local council standards as guidelines.
Note: Upon successful completion of the BALOO course, fees for in-council members will be refunded.
Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT): Adults, please provide your SYT completion date, and make sure your training is current (not expired) by the time of the event.
BALOO training covers:
- Preparations for camping with Cub Scouts
- Site selection
- Parental involvement
- Health and safety
- Equipment
- Feeding
- Introduction to outdoor skills
IMPORTANT: The BALOO course is required for all packs that want to go camping. At least one adult (leader or parent) camping with the pack must be “BALOO certified.” This course is only offered a couple of times per year so plan ahead!
