Klondike Derby
The Klondike Derby is a day of fun and friendly competition in the snow (or mud, or sun--you never know with Midwest winters). Troops compete against each other in activities like fire building, sled racing, and first aid, and they must carry all their supplies on their troop-designed sled.
This is one of our most popular Scouts BSA and Venturing Crew activities. Arrow of Light Scouts may attend as guests of a troop.
Safeguarding Youth Training Required: All Adult Participants must provide their SYT Completion Date, and must be "current" (cannot be expired) at the time of the event.
Limited to Scouts BSA troops and Venturing. Arrow of Light Scouts may attend as guests of a troop.
PATROL SIZE IS A MINIMUM OF 5 AND MAXIMUM OF 9, with at least 2 Adults for each Troop or Crew registration. Arrow of Light guests can participate as a sled crew member and be counted towards the maximum of 9 patrol members, but for hesitant Arrow of Light Scouts that would rather tag along and observe, sign them up, but don't count them as part of the sled crew numbers. (Parents with up-to-date SYT or YPT are welcome to attend as accompanying adults and should work with their unit leader to register.) If there are 10 or more scouts, form multiple patrols.
Camping: Troops can camp Friday and/or Saturday night and should work with the Klondike Event Chair, “Michael” Cunningham (scoutmastertroop52deerfield@gmail.com) to reserve a campsite.
