Chippewa Trap Shooting Day

Event Details

October 23rd Trapshooting Activity

We have arranged for the Naperville Sportsman’s club to offer a trapshooting activity on Sunday, October 23rd at Sportsman’s Park in Naperville.  The address is 735 S West St, Naperville, 60540; the entrance is on West street just south of Martin Ave. This is for Chippewa District Scouts BSA youth plus the older programs.

Trapshooting is an activity involving shooting with shotguns at flying clay targets which look like little frisbees.   The program will include an approx ½ hour basic safety and “how to do it” instruction and then firing 10 shots of trapshooting.

The cost will be covered under your Council Fee, so there is no charge to participants.  This is a very resource-intensive activity including volunteer and trap field time, so there will be a limited number of slots. For this reason, we have a more thorough individual signup procedure including the Scout’s name and address and and email and phone # for the Scout or their parent. Any registered scouts who can't attend, please send an email to Fred Turek at FDTurek@Gmail.com. Only the signed up Scout will be able to use the “spot”.

There will be a sign-in procedure on a Naperville park District form.  A PDF of the form is attached.   All youth under 18 years old will need a parent signature; if they will not have a parent there, please complete the form ahead of time and have the Scout bring it.  This requirement will be strictly enforced, the Scout will not be able to participate without it.

There will be 5 arrival times (11:15, 12:15, 1:15, 2:15  and 3;15 PM) with 10 “slots” for each arrival time.  There will be some waiting, so plan on spending a few hours there.   There are tables and a TV in the clubhouse plus picnic tables…feel free to bring a lunch, snack or beverages. Scouts can also watch the trapshooting while waiting.

The Naperville Sportsman’s Club will be providing eye and ear protection. If you wish, you can bring your own glasses or sunglasses and that is OK to be your eye protection. The same will be for parents and leaders if they want to be inside the fence to more closely see the Scouts shoot.   Dress to be outside in the weather, whatever it is.
