2021 Ottawa District Pinewood Derby 

Every year Ottawa District holds a pinewood derby competition for Cub Scouts and Webelos. In 2021 this will look very diffrent. The event will be a live vertual event. Cars that qualify will need to be delivered to the district by March 5th. The races will be recorded and a live event will take place on April 3rd. Please check bakc for more details on how to register cars for the race and get them checked in on time.

All derby cars must meet the regulations. Please check your cars ahead of time. Cars will not be allowed to race if they do not meet weight and design requirements set in the Ottawa Distirct Guide.

When and Where

March 6, 2021 is the actual race date. This is when our volunteer event staff will race the cars at Camp Big Timber

April 3, 2021 is when the races will be premeried with a live virtual watch party. (we are thinking outside the box on this one…be prepared for a fun event!)

Who Can Participate

Who is onsite on race day?  Only the District Pinewood Derby Volunteers.  To comply with current COVID midigations, we are planning to record the races, edit the videos, and premier those video with a live event on March 6th.

Who can enter the race?  The top 5 cars for each rank, may remain at CBT for the Ottawa District race.  Review the Ottawa District Pinewood Derby Leader’s Guide for details.

How:  How to enter cars?

Enter as a Pack: For this year, we are asking Packs to submit cars as a Unit.  If a unit only has one or two cars, we will still welcome those cars. Receiving and returning cars as a group will help with the coordination and logistics of tracking cars and not losing them.   

Drop Off Requirements:  We recommend a Pack plastic tote (please label tote with Pack #, Leader Name, & Phone #).  We can not have 25 shoeboxes for each Pack :). 

Label Cars:  All cars must be marked with the scout’s name, Pack number, and rank. This information can be put on the bottom of the car.  We recommend block letters with a sharpie.

Pick Up Cars:  After the race, the Pack Leaders will receive an email on pick up time/options.

Drop Off Locations:

@ T-Lodge: if you are participating in the Three Fires Council option to run your Pack derby at CBT, you will be able to leave your cars in a tote.  They will be stored at T-Lodge and pulled out only for the District Pinewood Derby.
