Annual Fox Valley District - 2019 Winterall & Klondike Derby

 

Join us for the 21st annual Winterall competition. Early bird Registration is now open!

What: Premier outdoor winter scout event.

Who: All Cubs, Webelos, Boy Scouts and Venturers

Where: LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean St. St. Charles, IL

When: Saturday, February 2, 2018 8 a.m. registration for all Cub Scouts

-          Friday, February 1, 2017 6:00p.m. Check in for Boy Scouts Only

Cost: $15 per person, $10 for Volunteers if paid by January 28, 2019

Please note* - Only the first 150 registered youth will receive the Winterall hat for 2019! Please do not wait to sign your Scout up for this limited edition hat!

Cub Scout dens, Boy Scout patrols, and Venture Crews will compete against boys their own age from throughout the District. Ribbons/Trophies will be awarded at the closing ceremony to the first, second, and third place finishers in each age group.

We need Volunteers! Winterall has experienced a wonderful volunteer turnout in the past and we would be grateful for your unit’s help again this year to staff events and to help prepare/serve a warm lunch. We also need help setting up for the event on Friday, Feb. 1st. We will be meeting at LeRoy Oakes at 9am.

Preparing for Winterall

Everyone:

·       Proper cold-weather clothing– gloves, hat, and waterproof boots, no gym shoes (Scouts with inadequate clothing or footwear will be sent home.)

·       Can of soup, or chili per person (Chicken, beef, or tomato-based only)

·       Kindling and tinder for fire building event

·       Snow Snake

·       Klondike Sled with cooler for transporting,  storing dry clothes, water & Race

·       Compass

·       First Aid Kit

·       Patrol Flag & Yell

Boy Scouts should bring the following:

Ingredients and equipment for desert cook-off, tarp (at least 6’x8’), cold-weather camping gear (Mummy bag and closed-cell pad), troop flag, and food for Friday night and Saturday morning

 

Winterall Schedule

Boy Scout Friday Night Check-In (Tentative):

·       Troops/Patrols set up their camp on Friday night (Points Awarded)

·       Troops/Patrols present themselves with proper cold weather camping gear and clothing for the

·       weekend with their Klondike sled (Points Awarded)

·       Troops/Patrols participate in Ready-Set-Cook (1st 2nd and 3rd place awards). This year will be a Desert Cook off. Your unit should be prepared to serve 3-5 judges each your best

Saturday Schedule of Events (Tentative):

·       Saturday Morning Registration and Check-In: 8:00 a.m.

·       Opening Ceremony: 9:00 a.m. at the fire bowl

·       Events Begin: 9:15 a.m.

·       Lunch: Hot Food to be served at 12:00

·       Events End 2:00 p.m.

Closing Ceremony: 2:15 at the Fire bowl

 

Patch Design Contest Rules: 
1. Patch Design can be submitted in the following formats: Sketch, Drawing, JPEG, GIF or TIFF and must be submitted on a sheet of paper no larger then an 8”x10” landscape design. 
2. The chosen patch will be fitted to a 3” x 2” design template above so keep small details and small font to a minimum
3. Patch designs must include: Fox Valley District, Winterall, 2019, and the BSA fleur-de-lis. 
4. Patch designs must be in color and can be submitted at Round Table to Phil Jaynes or via email to colleen.vogtmann@gmail.com
5. All entries must have name, unit number, phone number, email and be returned with a signed copy of the contest rules (this flier). 
6. Patch designs must be scout appropriate. 
7. All patch design submissions become the property of TFC.  Patch designs must be submitted by Thursday December 6th 2018. Late entries will not be accepted.
The winner will be announced, awarded and crowned the Winterall Ruler at the opening ceremony of the 2019 FVD Winterall on February 2nd 2019.
