2020 Training Academy

This year’s Training Academy magically answers the question: Where can I find training this year from fantastic instructors in spite of Covid*?
 
While Training Academy may appear a little different this year, we’ve cast a Cheering Charm this year to ensure training is as fun and rewarding as in years past. Sign up all of your leaders for a full day of training – most classes are offered from the comfort of your own computer!  Several classes are also offered in-person at Camp Big Timber. There’s something for everyone: fun hands-on training, cooking, camping, knots, STEM, marketing, special abilities, working in your leadership role, ceremonies – just to name a few!
 

Cost:        Early Bird $15 / Register on or before October 31
                Regular Rate $20 / Register November 1 – 12

               1st 400 registrants will receive the 2020 Training Academy patch!

Where:    Virtual, online classes   From the comfort of your computer
                Hands-on classes          Camp Big Timber, 37W955 Big Timber Road, Elgin

What:     Adult training for all levels of Scouting (Cub Scout, Webelos, Scouts BSA, Venturing).  Take up to five classes during the day*.  (Youth  training for Den Chiefs and Senior Patrol Leaders is also offered. See links in the right-hand column for more information.)

When:    VIRTUAL CLASSES -  Saturday, November 14, 2020

              Period 1 Classes                  9:00 am –   9:50 am

              Period 2 Classes                  10:00 am – 10:50 am

              Period 3 Classes                  11:00 am – 11:50 am

              Lunch Break                         11:50 am – 12:30 pm

              Period 4 Classes                  12:30 pm –   1:20 pm

              Period 5 Classes                  1:30 pm –   2:20 pm

* Each person who registers will be able to select up to five (5) class periods of training. (Some classes are scheduled over multiple class periods). Please use the five dropdowns to make your selections. Make your choices beforehand by opening the Course Selection GRID link and viewing the choices for each period.

NOTE: If you choose to take Scoutmaster-/ASM-Specific Training, it will account for three (3) classes during Training Academy; you will be able to take two virtual class periods of training (periods 4 and 5) on November 14th, as well.

If you want to take Scoutmaster-/ASM-Specific Training on November 21st AND five (5) virtual classes on November 14th, you will need to complete two separate registrations (and pay for the second day of training).


              IN-PERSON CLASSES - Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Camp Big Timber (Elgin)

Classes include: Cub Scout Outdoor Cooking (Crs #340), HOT Dutch Oven Cooking (Crs #528), and Fun With Fire (Crs #269)

Due to Covid considerations, no walk-in registrations will be allowed this year. Thank you for your understanding. Registration cut off is at 11:59 p.m. on November 12.


             Scoutmaster/Asst. Scoutmaster Specific Training* (Crs. #150)

NOTE DIFFERENT DATE - Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Camp Big Timber (Elgin) /     Registration  7:30 am –   8:00 am / Class:   8:00 am –   12:30 pm / * Trained card issued at completion of class.

Registration cut off for SM/ASM Specific IN-PERSON Training is at 11:59 p.m. on November 19.

NOTE: If you choose to take Scoutmaster-/ASM-Specific Training, it will account for three (3) classes during Training Academy; you will be able to take two virtual class periods of training (periods 4 and 5) on November 14th, as well.

Covid Statement:

In-person Classes:  Health and safety are paramount to keep everyone safe. We are implementing the following:

  • Limited class sizes. Once filled, no exceptions will be made to add additional participants.
  • Social distancing is required.
  • Masks are required.
  • Classes will be broken into smaller, separate groups, who will travel together between instructors.
  • Non-touch temperatures will be taken at check in.
